BACKGROUND & OWNERSHIP

In 1959, Reed City Tool & Die opened as the foremost expert in the tooling industry. After successfully building its reputation and diversifying its capabilities for over three decades, Reed City Tool & Die became a division of Pilot Industries, a Tier 1 automotive component manufacturer. Ownership was transferred to Canadian automotive manufacturer, Martinrea Industries Inc., in 2002. Throughout these transitions, Reed City Tool continued to excel in its core strengths and values: skilled trades, high performance mold building and industry-leading hydraulic presses.

In 2009, the Reed City Tool division was acquired, not by another manufacturing company, but by Reed City native and plant general manager Rod Weck. Rod had been employed at the company since his apprenticeship began there in 1974. Shortly after serving a tour in Vietnam from 1971-1972, Rod began his career at Reed City Tool on the shop floor, working his way up over the years as mold leader, quality manager, mold supervisor, assistant plant manager, plant manager, and general manager. Under Rod’s leadership, the company has expanded beyond its core tool, die and mold building services.

Fast forward to 2017, and Reed City Tool was acquired by Argosy Private Equity and Stone River Capital Partners. The new ownership has been dedicated and focused on investing in private companies for over 27 years, developing a well-established track record of supporting teams to build, grow, and scale their companies.

Reed City Tool was renamed and re-branded to Reed City Group thereafter. Reed City Group is built on the diverse history, reputation, and capabilities of Reed City Tool, but aims to capture much more of the industry. Our capabilities have since gone above and beyond our tooling roots, into new markets, and fresh industries. That includes plastics, tooling and automation. At Reed City Group, we are motivated by our passion, driven by our principles, and innovative in our products.

So, Why Choose Reed City Group?
